Last minute winner seals it for All Saints

AC U17 Football League Division 1

All Saints 2-15 Con Magees 2-14

All Saints Minors finished their league campaign with a thrilling last minute victory over near neighbours Glenravel. Despite missing a few regulars through injury the small Saints squad kept going until the end and were rewarded for their late dominance with an opportunity from the spot to win the game. Darach Bradley stepped up and slotted the winning goal via the keepers touch to the bottom corner sparking huge celebrations amongst a Saints squad starved of wins this season.

Glenravel had started the sharper and raced into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead, with the Glenravel full forward line looking dangerous a goal looked likely. It soon transpired when the Saints defence who stood off their counterparts far too much in the first half, again left a gap that the Con Magee’s forwards took advantage of to fire to the net.

However towards the end of the first half the Saints back line were beginning to get on top, points from Conlin Neil, Archie McGreevey, Aodhan McGarry and the reliable free taking of Bradley kept them in touch. The Glen’s men started the 2nd half quickly and scored a 2nd goal and it looked like the game was won, however the Saints boys weren’t done yet.

Lewis Devlin fired to the net after great work by Harry Connon and there was life in the Saints yet. A scuffle in the top corner of Slemish Park seemed to galvanise the home side with further points from Neil, Bradley and McGreevey keeping them in touch but a win looked unlikely with 5 minutes to go when a point on the break for the visitors seemed to seal the deal.

Bradley added his 3rd point to narrow the gap to 2 with time nearly up. A Saints attack was brought to a halt by a Glenravel foul and the only option was to drop the ball in, Corey McKillop won the break and was dragged down to win the penalty. 2 points down the only option for Bradley was the net and he duly delivered to send the Saints players and supporters home happy!!

Scorers: Darach Bradley 1-09 Archie McGreevey 0-2 Conlin Neil 0-3 Aodhan McGarry 0-1 Lewis Devlin 1-0
