Paddies secure final place with win over Con Magees

Under 20 B Hurling Championship

Con Magees 1-6 Sarsfields 1-2

A dominant first half set Sarsfields up for a win over Con Magees in Saturday’s Under 20 B Hurling Championship semi-final at Fr Maginn Park.

The Paddies were on the score board early and two points in the 1st and 2nd minutes were followed by a goal from Corner forward Brendan Jackson. Further points followed from centre back Daniel Smyth and centre forward Anthony McGarrigle, before Glenravel got their only point of the first half with a great long range point from Calum Higgins, but Sarsfields finished the half with another point from Smyth to give his team a 1-7 to 0-1 lead.

Smyth increased Sarsfields lead a minute into the second half but two minutes later a Ryan McQuillan goal gave the home team a bit of hope. McQuillan added two more from frees, but Sarsfields had an answer on both occasions and further points from Ruairi McAreavey and Daniel Smyth put them 1-7 to 1-3 ahead.

Cormac McKeown, who was to play a starring role for Glenravel in the Antrim Minor A football final the next day, came on with ten minutes left for play and added three points to close the gap to six. However that as good as it got and the Paddies held out for a comfortable win as they secured their place in next weekend’s final against Naomh Eanna
