Great night at the launch of GAA Books for Kids at the Cultúrlan

GAA Books For Kids

Thursday 3rd November saw the Official launch of GAA books for Kids ‘My First Gaelic Football Match’ and ‘My First Hurling-Camogie Match’ series at the Cultúrlann in Belfast.  The unique storybooks are available in both English and Irish language.

The newly published books were brilliantly presented by co-authors Kevin O’Boyle (Cargin), Michael Gerard Doherty (Sarsfields) and illustrator Ciaran Orchin (Rossa).

The creators gave their audience of special guests, family and friends, a fantastic insight to the book, explaining where the idea came from and their successful journey to publication.

The event showcased how the books can be personalised for individual clubs (minimum order of 100 for personalised versions) and highlighted the opportunity to link the books into the school curriculum, using a bespoke free 30-page activity booklet, designed in conjunction with the books.

The “My First Match” storybooks are aimed to inspire both reading and a love of Gaelic Games. The story follows the contrasting backgrounds of Senan Mc Coy & Kayla Doherty. It follows their journey growing up as next door ‘strangers’ to team mates lining out side by side at their first match for their club.

Three stars of the GAA who attended the launch. L-R, Peter Canavan, Niamh McLaughlin and Austin Gleeson

Hosted by Thomas Niblock, special guests Austin Gleeson (Waterford), Niamh McLaughlin (Donegal) & Peter Canavan (Tyrone) shared with the audience their own thoughts on the books and reflected on childhood memories the stories brought back for them.

In closing, special thanks must go to the Saffron Gael for their continued support and exposure of all things GAA in our County. Thanks were also given to the main sponsor ‘Premier Electrics’, Media sponsors ‘The Irish News’, O’Neill’s Sportswear, Glór Na Móna, The Dunadry Hotel and Gardens, The GPA, Peter McNicholl ‘Social Media Advert Expert’ and also Family and Friends.

An evening of music, stories and craic was finished off with pictures and autographs with the special guests.
