Aldergrove take the spoils

ACFL Division 2

St. Patrick’s 0-5 St. James 0-10

In horrendous conditions for both teams in Lisburn, Aldergrove collected the points to maintain their unbeaten record in division 2 in a game they could have won more convincingly.

The first half finished 0-5 points to 0-1 with Aldergrove playing with the slight advantage of a swirling wind. They were guilty of hitting a number of wides that would have had the game over by half time with St Pats rarely threatening and setting up defensively.

Aldergrove looked in total control with points from Seamus McGarry(3), Ronan Hanna & D Gough and St Pats only score of the half coming from a placed ball.

Aldergrove came out in the second half playing against the wind but managed to continue to stretch their lead through 3 more points from Seamus McGarry before St Pats pulled a couple of points back to close the gap to 6.

County panellist McGarry was carrying the greatest scoring threat for the visitors and he added another point with D Gough also on target to stretch the visitors lead to seven. St Pats fought to the end and managed to score a couple more points to close the gap to five but the result never looked in doubt.

Given the conditions Aldergrove will be happy to take the two points and with three wins from three starts they sit in second place in the league, two points behind All Saints but with two games in hand.
