Age long rivals, Loughgiel Shamrocks and Oisin Glenariff, met head to head in the second round of the U17 League on Sunday afternoon in Waterfoot The match itself was competitive as always with Oisins spearheading a strong start. An early goal by Gerard Burns got theGlenariffe boys off to a good start but this was swiftly overturned by two goals by county star Roan McGarry.

Oisins’ Colla Ward and Oisin Mort continued to push through the Loughgiel defence and continued to add extra pressure to the Shamrocks. Hope for their red and white counterparts was reignited by superb and speedy movement by Eddie Smyth. Before the half time whistle, a series of goals were scored by both Loughgiel’s Ronan Fitzgerald, Conan Johnston and Oisins’ Peadar McDonnell continued to tighten the score difference.
Half Time Score:
Glenariffe-Glenravel: 2-12 Seamróga 5-06
The second half began with a well-matched competitive game between both teams. A penalty scored by Orrin O’Connor and a goal from play by Peadar McDonnell brought Oisins back into the game within the first 11 minutes. Loughgiel’s side continued to battle on, and a great stagnation occurred as a result of the ball stopping in movement as both teams continued to combat one another. However, the Glenariffe-Glenravel side had the upper hand and delivered a victory after a very hard and well fought match.
