A C League Division One
Erin’s Own Cargin 3-13 St Ergnat’s Moneyglass 2-15
A late Tom Shivers point deep into time added proved the winner in the gathering gloom, and enough to take Cargin over the line to victory over their near neighbours Moneyglass in an all action, hugely enjoyable ‘local derby’ in Toome on Wednesday evening.
The action had swung from end to end in frantic activity from start to finish with the prize of a couple of points changing hands on a number of occasions and when replacement Sean Boyd fired to the net in late in time added on it looked like he had earned his team a share of the spoils However the young Shivers, who had a fine game overall, retained his accuracy and vision to split the posts for the fifth time and he landed the winner to the delight and relief of the home crowd

A good crowd had assembled at Toome as Patrick Tumelty signalled the start of a local derby as Cargin lined out to meet their near neighbours Moneyglass on Wednesday evening.
The St Ergnat’s men having regained first division status this term had started well in 2023 and they had arrived at the Shore Road with confidence high and they were first to strike as Seanachain Duffin raised white in a confident finish from out on the left hand side.
Cargin were quick to make reply as Conhuir Johnston punched a Pat Shivers delivery to the back of the net and Tom Shivers steered a 35 metre free between the posts.
A busy start to proceedings and after both Duffin brothers, Seanachan and Colm raised white flags apiece net minder Gavin Murray took centre stage when he advanced off his line smartly to deny Conhuir Johnston and the clearance sent Colum (Smiley) Duffin away to raise white at the other end and a further point by Pat McCormick left it 1-05 to 1-03.
As the interval approached another excellent Seanachan Duffin strike which split the posts extended the visitors advantage to three but the last say was to be fashioned by the home side as a Conhuir Johnston point made it 1-06 to 1-04 at the break with the visitors ahead.
Having stood tall against the county champions on their own sward in the opening half Moneyglass stepped forward in positivity in the second portion and had extended advantage by three points by the 37th minute.

Colum Duffin raised white in the 32nd minute quickly followed by similar scores from Dermot Mc Erlaine, and the pace laded Tiernan Mc Cormick.
The hard grafting Benen Kelly, who was in the midst of another eye catching performance, added a point to the home side’s total but the St Ergnet’s men found a reply as Seanachan Duffin added one at the other end.
The visitors had gone 1-10 to 1-05 clear and an upset looked distinctly possible.
The home side looked to be in a bit of trouble but they were quick to make reply and after Conan Johnston made his way forward to add a point net minder John Mc Nabb followed his full backs forward trek to launch high towards the goals and see the leather end in the back of the net. To make matters worse for the visitors Ciaran Bradley followed with a point for the home side and suddenly they were all square 2-07 to 1-10 at the 52nd minute of a highly entertaining game.
A Conor Boyd free, following a foul on replacement Sean Boyd, saw the visitors nip ahead but Cargin hit back as the Shivers brothers added vital scores.
Tom who was very prominent throughout added a couple of points and when his big brother found the net after good approach work by Ben Mc Larnon and Conhuir Johnston, Cargin looked in charge at 3-09 to 1-9

Moneyglass looked in a bit of trouble as the final whistle approached but they certainly were not about to throw in the towel. When replacement Sean Boyd added a fine 46th minute point and Colum Duffin added another, St Ergnat’s looked back on the road again.
Conan Johnston arrived on the right flank to add a point to ease the pressure on the home side, but Moneygalls found reply shortly after from Conor Boyd.
The home side appeared to be in full control when Conhuir Johnston’s 60th minute point put the men in green three clear, but Moneyglass were having none of that and when Tiernan Mc Cormick and Connlaidh Mc Cann started a good move, Sean Boyd was in to fire to the net to tie the scores.
Kieran Close did add a point to edge Cargin back in front and although it was cancelled out by a Seanachan Duffin point at the other end late in added time, Tom Shivers became the Cargin hero when he stepped forward to slot over the winner in a really thrilling contest .
