St Enda’s 2-09 Erin’s Own Cargin 0-09
St Enda’s have run into a rich vein of form recently and following a win at Portglenone on their previous start they added another major scalp when they defeated reigning county champions Cargin at Hightown on Wednesday evening.
The Glengormley men got away to a smart start when Oran Eastwood nipped in to grab a poor clearance in the 7th minute to find the net after the excellent Fionn Nagle had raised white a few minutes into proceedings.
The major score from the corner man ensured a good start for the Glengormley men and although Cargin got within a score of the home side as the opening period progressed with Pat Shivers raising a trio of whites and his sibling Tom getting a point, the Hightown men were to finish the period off on a positive note with Fionn Nagle raising back to back white flags in the closing minutes.
Cargin threatened as the first half progressed but in the event unforced errors were costing the Toome men and at the short whistle the home side were good value for their 1-06 to 0-05 interval advantage.
Having finished the opening period on top with a couple of morale boosting late scores from their midfielder Nagle the Hightown men were quickly out of the start traps for the second half.
Cargin, had struggled for most of the opening thirty minutes and the home side continued to dictate as the second half got under way.

Peter Healey was causing the visitors problems with his direct running and he got on the end of a clearance from James McAuley in the 34th minute and placed full forward Cillian Gilmour who fired home his side’s second goal.
The Glengormley side were flying and mid fielder Michael Morgan added a point to move them 2-07 to 0-05 ahead and they looked in total control at this stage of proceedings.
Cargin fought hard to get back into contention with Gerard McCann, Justin Crozier, and Benen Kelly working hard but it was St. Enda’s who moved further ahead at the end of the third quarter when a foul on the advancing Peter Healey was firmly punished when Oran Eastwood delivered the free kick between the posts to ensure a 2-08 to 0-05 advantage.
Ronan Devlin’s side were still battling hard and Ben McLarnon nipped up the left hand side to fire confidently between the posts in the 46th minute before mid-fielder Benen Kelly added another excellent score.
The visitors were beginning to threaten but St Enda’s had the bit fairly between their teeth and Oran Eastwood punished another indiscretion as he fired between the posts in the 51st minute to increase their lead.
Substitute David Johnston’s delivery sent Pat Shivers in on the target but the big man’s goal attempt produced a good save from the home side’s net minder, Michael O’Boyle who pushed the drive up and over the bar.
Ben Mc Lernon and Benen Kelly raised Cargin hopes of a comeback when they both split the posts in turn after sterling work from Cahir Donnelly and Justin Crozier.
The home side were still in command and Oran Eastwood added another point following a foul on the impressive Peter Healey as the game clock showed 53 minutes.
Cargin fought to the end but their best efforts were unrewarded until replacement Enda McGrogan came in from the right to split the posts just into time added with the Hightown side breasting the winning line points secured at 2-09 to 0-09.
