Strong start sets up Con Magees

Antrim Football League – Division 2

Con Magees 1-10  Davitt’s 0-7

Davitt’s paid the price for a slow start in Wednesday evening’s league game against Con Magees at Fr Maginn Park. There were 24 minutes on the clock when the Falls Road men raised their first flag, by which time the home side had four points on the board through Sean McKay, McQuillan and Eamon Fyfe (2). Full forward Michael Connolly opened the scoring for Davitt’s with a well taken point from distance and centre forward Gerard Slane got his team’s second three minutes later, but a goal just before half time but Sean struck for the only goal of the game just before the break to give the home side a 1-4 to 0-2 lead at the break.

Two Davitt’s points early in the second half from Padraig McPartland and Michael Connolly left just three between the side, but three on the trot from Glenravel’s Cahtal Hynds and Sean McKay (2) put daylight between the sided again. A beautifully struck free from goalkeeper Aaron Slane and one from play Gerard Slane kept the visitors very much in touch, but a strong finish from the home side which saw Eamon Fyfe, Sean McKay and Eoin Hynds fire over sealed the win for the Con Magees.
