Welcome win for Kickham’s Creggan

ACFL Division 1

Kickham’s Creggan 0-16 Moneyglass 1-7

Kickham’s Creggan put a recent defeat at Ahoghill behind them and picked up two useful points as they overcame the challenge of St. Ergnat’s Moneyglass on Wednesday night.

The Kickham’s showed their intent right from the start with Dominic McAteer pointing them ahead after 20 seconds and their early dominance continued as they built up a substantial 0-7 to 0-0 lead by the 13th minute.

McAteer lead the way for the home side as he added he added three more to his earlier opening score by the 7th minute and Matthew Rodgers,  Liam Quinn and Rodgers again moved them seven clear before Colum Duffin finally got the visitors off the mark from a pointed free in the 14th minute.

This score briefly interrupted the Creggan dominance as they replied through Liam Quinn and Matthew Rodgers and further scores from Rodgers and Dominic McAteer increased their lead to seven after 20 minutes, the Moneyglass second point coming from Peter McCormick.

Moneyglass enjoyed their best spell during the closing 10 minutes of the half but McCormick’s point was all they had to show for their efforts and it was Creggan who were in the driving seat as the half time whistle sounded.

St. Ergnat’s needed a good start to the second half if they were to salvage anything from this game but it was the Staffordstown Road side who made the early running again with Rodgers and McAteer 0-2 extending their lead to 10 after 5 minutes.

Aidan McErlain gave St. Ergnat’s a glimmer of hope when he fired home the game’s only goal in the 9th minute and Conall Prenter and McErlain added points but that would be as close as they would get as Creggan finished strongly.

Dominic McAteer led the way as he exchanged points with Colum Duffin and further exchanges with McAteer and Seanchan Duffin kept the Kickhams five in front and they finished the scoring with a pointed free from Oisin Kerr before McAteer concluded the scoring with his 10th of the game in injury time.
