The last round of the first phase of the Football league Division One as well as a games in both Division Two and Three are scheduled for Wednesday.
Phase two of the top division is yet to be finalised with only Casement’s, Aghagallon, and Cargin assured of progression into the top tier of the grade where the league title will be the prize for the team to finish on top.
Those teams who will accompany the three teams above into the top tier will be a close call with Lamh Dhearg, Creggan, St Gall’s, Moneyglass, St John’s, and St Mary’s Ahoghill still in contention for the three places up for grabs.
St Brigid’s v Kickham’s Creggan
This could be a close one with a place in the to six the probable prize for the ultimate victors as the reigning league champions Creggan travel to Musgrave Park in search of a victory and a possible top six place. The Kickham’s have really hit form in recent games and sit fifth in the league at present.
St Brigid’s had a poor start to the season but have shown great improvement recently and unbeaten in the last three outings to see them climb up the ratings.
Thery are one of four sides on 8 points at the bottom of the table but a win could put them in contention for a top six berth if results elsewhere go their way.
A close one in in prospect with both likely to field short of regulars with a tentative vote going the way of the South West side.
St John’s v St Gall’s
With both sides in this one sitting on 10 points a victory for either should ensure a top 6 as the Johnnies play hosts to St Gall in what should be a close encounter.
The home side started the season well but have slipped down the table and lost to Tir na nOg down at Whitehill last time out.
St Gall’s retained interest in a top six berth with a last round win over Rossa and the Milltown men will take the road over to Corrigan in a positive mode.
This is likely to be a close hard fought affair with ground advantage possibly tipping the balance in favour of the Johnnies.
O’ Donovan Rossa v Lamh Dhearg
Rossa have enjoyed a descent season but have been inconcistent, mixing the very good with the not so good and with only 8 points on the table, the Shaw’s road men cannot make the top 6.
The points are never the less important and survival in division 1 is not secured as they play hosts to Lamh Dhearg with the Hannastown side currently in fourth place and a win or even a draw should ensure them a top 6 place.
Lamh Dhearg will start as favourites but Hugh Mc Gettigan’s charges will give their visitors a run for their money.
Casement’s Portglenone v Tir na nOg Randalstown.
Casement’s remain in top spot and John Mc Keever’s side will start as favourites as they remain in search of a league title as they play hosts to the Tir na nOg in this one.
The home side will start as firm favourites but the inform Tir na nOg could give them a run for their money.
With 12 points secured to date Chris Mc Glone’s Ahoghill will take the long road up to Aghagallon more than well prepared to give the task before them a real lash.
Aghagallon currently sit second in the table with a place in the top six assured and they will hope to continue their challenge for a first league title with a home win looking likely.
St Enda’s v St Ergnat’s Moneyglass
Moneyglass have enjoyed a positive campaign in their first season back in division 1 with ten points secured to date and they will travel up to Hightown in search of another win to ensure they are in the mix for a place in the top six.
St Enda’s have struggled when they are without the services of their county men and Moneyglass will could gain the win and a possible top 6 place.
Division Two (7.30pm)
Section One
Michael Davitt’s v Gort na Mona
A close game is possible in this one as Davitt’s play hosts to the former division 1inhabitants Gort na Mona come a calling.
The home side are capable but unpredictable at times and they will be pushed hard by the Enright Park men and this one could go either way.
All Saint’s Ballymena v Con Magees Glenravel
This looks a contender for ‘match of the day’ as Glenravel travel to Ballymena to face an All Saints side who have led the way in the ratings since flag-fall.
A good crowd is anticipated in this one and although it is certain to be close a tentative vote is awarded to All Saints but it could go either way.
Division Three (7.30 pm)
St Malachy’s v Patrick Pearses
St. Malachy’s have struggled to get their act together this term and they will hope to get back to winning ways in this one as they play hosts to north Belfast based Patrick Pearses but the vote goes to the visitors.
Eire Og v St Agnes
The Aggies hold a place in the ratings just above their South Belfast based rivals Eire Og and they will welcome their opponents to their base in this one with prospects of a win.
O’ Donnell’s v Laochra Loch Lao
Nothing separates this duo in the ratings to date as O’ Donnell’s welcome Laochra Loch Lao to MacRory Park, and although this may well be close, ground advantage may tip the balance in favour of O’ Donnell’s.
