Cathal Mc Oscar has graced many side lines for The Saffron Gael as one of our photographers. However, he is planning to travel further afield in November when he embarks on his 5th trip to South Africa as a veteran volunteer with the Mellon Educate charity ( https://melloneducate.com/ ) This is for a building blitz to help build schools for the impoverished children of Cape Town. We are not entirely sure if he will leave his camera at home!
He is travelling with his father-in-law Sean Gribbin & brother-in-law Columb Gribbin (both previous volunteers) and 260 other volunteers to Khayelitsha, one of the poorest townships in Cape Town. Khayelitsha is one of the 5 largest townships in South Africa with an estimated population in excess of 1.5 million.
Since 2013, Mellon Educate has set about improving access for better standards of education in African townships. To date, the charity have built/renovated 32 schools, providing over 50,000 young children with a better chance at life. The charity are building towards education programmes throughout Africa that will benefit over 100,000 primary school kids.

In order to raise funds for the charity Cathal has been carrying out player profile photoshoots with various sporting organisations in lieu of donations towards the charity.
