Strong start to JFC by O’Donnell’s

Antrim Junior Football Championship

Lochra Loch Lao 2-7 O’Donnell’s 2-21

O’Donnelly’s powered their way past the challenge of West Belfast rivals Lochra Loch Lao in the opening round of the Graham Tarmac Antirm Junior Football Championship at Colaiste Feirste on Friday evening, the Division 3 runners-up winning by 14 points in the end.

An early exchange of points between O’Dee’s ciaran McKissock and Lochra’s Rian McShane was followed by four in a row by the MacCrory Park side as Sean Pat Donnelly (2) Richie McAvoy and Fergal McNerney fired over points.

The home side fought back with a point from Conor McGuckian and a goal from Gerard McPhllips and it looked like we were in for a close fought battle, but O’Donnell’s produced a strong last ten minutes to the opening half and went at the break with a 0-12 to 1-5 half time lead.

The first ten minutes of the second half saw O’Dee’s take control of the game and with Sean Pat Donnelly leading the line they hit 2-5 without reply, Donnelly accounting for 1-3 while PJ Meenan got the other goal Tomas Toland gave Lochra a glimmer of hope when he got his side’s second goal on 32 minutes but it was never going to be enough and McKissock, McAvoy and PJ Meenan wrapped it up for O’Dee’s
