Ard na Rí pull clear in second half

Under 15 Hurling Championship Quarter final

Glenariffe/Glenravel 3-8 Ard na Rí 5-14

Ard na Rí booked their place in the semi-final of the Under 15 Hurling Championship when they travelled to Glenariffe on Tuesday evening and beat the Glenarifffe/Glenravel combination side by twelve points. Trailing by a goal at the break (2-6 to 3-6) after a great half hours hurling, Ard na Rí took control of the match in the second half and after drawing level midway through the half they pushed on to win convincingly.

On a perfect evening for hurling both teams put on a good display wth Niall McKeown, Canice McIntosh, Cadhan Graham, Fionn McCann and Ronan Magee all showing well for the home side, while Fionn McCann, Aodhann Pierce, Conal Dempsey and man of the match Ronan Taylor. Taylor, who played at full forward for the Belfast team, was outstanding, ending up with 4 goals and 8 points to his name.

Taylor had the ball in the Glenariffe-Glenravel net inside 30 second, and after Niall McKeown levelled things up again a minute later, the full forward struck again for goal number two. Three pointed frees from Canice McIntosh, and Ronan Magee (2) brought the home team back to within one. Two from centre half back Fonn McCann 65s and one from Ronan Taylor gave Ard na Rí back the lead, but the Glenariffe-Glenravel combination finished the first half strongly and two great goals from Niall McKeown and points from Niall Magee had them a goal in front at the break. (3-6 to 2-6)

After the change of ends the Belfast side took control of the game and with Dempsey and McCann ruling the midfield area the scores began to come. Two pointed frees from Ronan Taylor were followed by a goal directly from a 65 by Fionn McCann. Taylor was always the dangerman as he added scores from all over the field, and he crowned a great display when fired in two great goals from play to cap a great individual display.
