Lamh Dhearg 4-10 Glenavy 1-13
Lamh Dhearg’s ability to hit the back of the net saw them overcome Glenavy in the Under 16 B final at Hannahstown on Tuesday evening.
Early goals from the excellent Aoife Fitzsimons in the 3rd and 7th minutes set the Lamhs on their way, but star of the show Aoibheann Monaghan kept Glenavy in the game with a series of great points.
Leading by 2-6 to 0-7 at half time Lamh Dhearg saw their lead cut to a point as Monaghan got a goal and a point in the first five minutes of the second half. However that was as close as the visitors would gat and when Lauren Smith and Amelia Annett came back with goals in the 37th and 40th minutes they were back in charge.
Monaghan, who scored 1-12 of her team’s total, kept Glenavy in contention but with Smyth and Fitzsimons playing superbly for the home side they pushed on to win six in the end and secure their place in next week’s final against Glenariffe.
