Wins for Dunloy and Loughgiel in Camogie Championship

Travel Ireland Coaches Antrim senior championship

Dunloy 3-14 Cushendall 1-9

Loughgiel 6-23 Brídíní Óga Glenravel 3-4

ALTHOUGH Cara O’Boyle opened the scoring with a Cushendall point in Saturday’s Travel Ireland Coaches Antrim senior camogie championship, her team conceded the next two goals and six points to Dunloy.

By the time Katie Molloy goaled directly from a free in the 20th minute, Dunloy had already registered five points, including three from the free-taker. Áine Magill added the second goal in the 22nd minute and Dunloy turned around with a 2-6 to 0-4 interval lead.

Molloy pointed on the re-start and Cushendall weren’t able to close the gap until points from sub Kady McNeill, Brogan Abram and Cara O’Boyle made it 2-9 to 0-9 with ten minutes left.

Abram’s 53rd minute goal from a free closed it further, but Dunloy finished strongly with points from Molloy and Eimear Johnston and then a 57th minute goal from Áine Magill.

Sunday’s game went as expected with champions Loughgiel easing to a 6-23 to 3-4 victory over Brídíní Óga.

Chloe Higgins had the sliotar in the Glenravel net inside 60 seconds and further goals from Caitrin Dobbin and Katie McKillop put Loughgiel in at the break with an advantage of 3-10 to 1-3.

Glenravel had their best spell during the first 20 minutes of the second half where goals from Aimee Traynor and Ashling Millar cancelled out 1-4 from the home side, but a goal from Róisín McCormick started a run of 2-8 without reply in the last ten minutes to emphasise the gap between the teams.
