St. John’s complete the U17B double

U17B Hurling Championship final

St. John’s 1-18 Rossa 1-7

St. John’s made it an U17B football and hurling double when they overcame the challenge of a spirited Rossa in the hurling final at St. Teresa’s on Sunday morning.

The young Johnnies started well in a well contested game of hurling and hit a few early scores to move ahead but Rossa battled back and got a goal just before half time to see them take the lead.

Both sides added late first half scores to see the contest level at the halfway stage and all still to play for in the second half.

However it was St. John’s who came back strongly after the break with McGurk and Adams in fine scoring form as they started to get on top all over the pitch.

Rossa basttled hard but it was the Johnnies who were getting on top all over the pitch and a goal from ‘Rhino’ McGivern put paid to their challenge.

A great winn for the Corrigan Park youngsters who won the football title a week ago when they defeated All Saints in the final and a tribute to the good work that is going on within the club at present.

St. John’s scorers: S. McGivern 1-0, E McGurk 0-5, R Donnelly 0-2, D King 0-1, T Adams 0-3, C Wilson 0-1, J Nilson 0-1, F McCallin 0-5
