CPC pull clear in second half to seal semi-final spot

Danske Bank Mageean Cup

Cross & Passion Ballycastle 6-17 Our Lady & St Patrick’s Knock 2-10

When Sé Pucci goaled for Our Lady & St Patrick’s Knock a minute after half-time to put them 2-7 to 1-9 ahead, a shock appeared to be on the cards but Cross & Passion Ballycastle powered through the rest of the second half to outscore them by 5-8 to 0-1 and claim their spot in the semi-finals of the Danske Bank Mageean Cup.

Ballycastle will await the winners of the quarter-final between holders St Louis Ballymena and St Mary’s CBGS Belfast while the other group winner St Killian’s Garron Tower will face either Knock or St Patrick’s Maghera in their last four clash.

Knock were the better team in the first half of yesterday’s final game in Group B, but Anthony Mullan in the Ballycastle goals pulled off two excellent saves that meant that CPC led by 1-9 to 1-7 at the break. Eoin Kelly was the Knock goal-scorer while Conor Donnelly hit the net for CPC with Roan McGarry adding three points.

After that Pucci goal on the re-start, Ballycastle moved up a gear with two goals from Roan McGarry, a second from Donnelly and one each for Daragh Kelly and Oisin McCallin and they finished comfortable winners despite the best efforts of Odhrán Birt, Rory McCamphill, Sé Pucci and Rónán Donnelly.

CPC: R McGarry 2-7, C Donnelly 2-1, D Kelly 1-1, O McCallin 1-0, P Martin 0-3, R Fitzgerald 0-2, L Glackin 0-1, T McGarry 0-1, B McGarry 0-1

Knock: E Kelly 1-3, S Pucci 1-3, L Blaney 0-2, F Kane 0-2
