Rossa Mothers & Other Spirit of Hope blitz

The sun was shining as 9 Gaelic for Mothers & Others teams met up at Rossa Clubhouse for this years Spirit of Hope blitz
This is our 7th year running this non competitive Tournament for another charity, this year we chose The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, an amazing charity doing such good work up and down the Island of Ireland, supporting families whose loved ones have died abroad and bringing their remains home.
All teams embraced the day in the spirit of what it stands for, a bit of craic, a laugh along the way and making friends old and new.

We had laughs on and off the pitch, starting off with the only competitive aspect of the day – who was best at the
“Proud Mary” in the warm up section. I think we all know who won that.
Our juvenile members did a fantastic job of running the shop, selling ballots and most importantly, refereeing the matches, in some cases getting to blow the whistle on their mums or if they were feeling generous awarding a free, but they all did us proud.
After the matches our Chair person Margaret Flynn thanked all the clubs for joining us and invited everyone to join us at the Roddy McCorleys for refreshments and entertainment, a massive thank you to the staff for making us so welcome.

The craic was mighty and a sing song wasn’t long starting, with many fighting for the Mic, singer of the day had to go to young Daire who at the age of 8 entertained us all with a couple of numbers.
We did some post match analysis amongst ourselves of the individual matches and decided that we were all winners for tying our boots and showing up, some taking to the pitch for the 1st time and looking forward to returning, always a sign of a successful day.
To top it off we were delighted to raise over £2k for the KBRT which will help the charity massively.
Thank you to everyone for their support and generosity.
We will see you all again next year for another day out with the Rossa mummies. Until then we will leave you with these words:

We are the Mothers & Others
We play football just for fun
We don’t care about the score
We just enjoy the run

We are not here to compete
We are here to make new friends
We support each other on the field
And share a laugh at the end

When the games are over
We’ll sit down for a drink
We’ll talk and sing and have a dance and then another drink

We are the Mothers & Others
We play Gaelic games for the craic
We love the sport and the spirit
And we always will come back.
