Loch Mór Dál gCais celebrate their 10th anniversary in style

Loch Mór Dál gCais hurling club celebrated their 10th anniversary in style, at their Gala Ball in the Devenish complex on Friday 3rd November. Club members were joined by esteemed guests, two legends of camogie and hurling, Jane Adams and Terence Sambo McNaughton who shared their wisdom and love of the game and inspired the young hurlers and camogs of Loch Mór and assured them that with hard work and dedication to hurling that nothing could stop them playing successfully at a top level and acheiving great things with club and county, just as they both had. The club was honoured to have Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Gary McCleave in attendance. Gary continues to be a champion for the club at local council.

Chairman, Neil Morgan told of the humble origins of the club, a chance conversation with club stalwart Paul Banjo Bannon 10 years ago, both having a mutual love of hurling and recognising the Glenavy area was crying out for a hurling team and from that Loch Mór Dál gCais was born.

In the last 10 years the underage hurlers and camogs of Loch Mór have had notable success lifting league and Feile titles. The senior hurlers, made up of a panel of talented young hurlers, have reached the Junior Hurling final for the last 2 years and are confident that silverware is coming to Glenavy soon. The senior camogs have gone in 2 short years from a recreational camogie team to a senior team competing and recording wins in their first league and championship games this year.

The club committee continues to build on the legacy of past committees and are working hard to achieve the ambitions of the club to have their own pitch, which if realised in the coming years will undoubtedly help the club grow even more in the next ten years. The future of hurling in Glenavy and the future of Loch Mór Dàl gCais looks very bright.
