St MacNissi’s win the Larne PS Hurling Cup

St MacNissi’s Primary School have won the MacAllister McAleese Solicitors Larne Schools Hurling Cup

This year’s competition saw some big changes, a title sponsor and 3 new Schools came on board for 2024.

Island Magee Primary School, Moyle Primary and Larne and Inver Primary School all making their 1st appearances.

The first game saw the pupils from the peninsula put up a good show against 2023 winners St MacNissi’s who won 2-0.

Moyle played their maiden match drawing 0-0 against St Anthony’s.  And a strong Larne and Inver team beat Corran Integrated by a goal to complete the first round of fixtures.

The format changed slightly this year to accommodate the increased number of participants.  Each school played each other once in the league section of the tournament.  With the top two playing each other in an extended final.

Island Magee and Corran Integrated both won games, St MacNissi’s won 4 out of 5 but Larne and Inver were the most impressive throughout the league section. Winning every game with some intricate passing, impressive team play and astute defending.

The final was a tense affair, a single goal scored midway through the second half was enough to claim the victory for St MacNissis who received the trophy from Mid and East Antrim Mayor Geraldine Mulvenna.

The extended 2024 competition was a great success after ten years of 3 participants since 2014.  Over 150 children across 6 schools got an introduction to Hurling all from the town of Larne or within BT40

Latharna Og would like to thank Mid and East Antrim for their continued support.

Brighter Futures who provided new personalised helmets for St Anthonys, St MacNissi’s and Corran Integrated, our title sponsors MacAllister and McAleese Solicitors, Larne and Inver, Moyle Primary and Island Magee for coming on board and everyone who helped out and most importantly the boys and girls who took part and made the day happen.
