Joint Rathmore captains Poppy McGarrity and Niamh Lagan receive the Gaelfast Year 9 Camogie Shield after their team’s win over Dominican College

Rathmore Grammar School won the Gaelfast Year 9 Camogie Shield when they turned in a strong second half display to beat Dominican College in Wednesday evening’s final at Dunsilly.

Rathmore dominated the early stages of the game but when Dominican’s midfielder Hannah McMillen grabbed a goal against the run of play they appeared to be in a strong position.

Rathmore got the opening score in the fifth minute when corner forward Anges Burrowl fired over and playing with the breeze at their backs they looked to be in a strong position. However when McMillen grabbed a goal for Dominican two minutes later they went two clear and it was clear Rathmore had a fight on their hands, but they reacted well and fought back to level at half time with points from Lila McCavana and Niamh Lagan.

Lagan proved to be the key player in the second half as her strong running against the breeze saw Rathmore create many more chances and a goal form the centre forward and a point from McCavana gave they the scores that sealed the win.
