Carryduff opened up the Division 2 League with a decisive win against Loughgiel 2nds at Fr Healy Park. The match had opened with a short period of competitive edge between both teams, but time proved ultimately in favour of the Caryduff side. A strong challenge had been presented to Loughgiel, preventing a score for almost twenty minutes into the first half thanks to the continuous efforts of Paddy Bradley, Ronan Casey and Ryan Hill trying to forestall the impending advances of Eoin and Donal Rooney who had been helped in increasing the score along with the help of Darragh Goodwin. Goals fired to the net from the Rooneys helped cement the Carryduff lead, but a sneaky goal by Paddy Bradley had helped keep the Loughgiel spirit alive before the half time whistle.

Loughgiel entered the second half with great vigour, but a goal chance by Danny McAuley was swifty denied by the Carryduff goalkeeper, Conor McLornan, within the first five minutes. Damien Quinn and Conall McCloskey had made great strides to curtail the counter offensive by the Carryduff side, but the brute strength of Adrian Downey was difficult to stop. Two goals by Ronan McCollum helped keep the Loughgiel spirit alive, and chances of Loughgiel’s hopes being rekindled in the second half seemed likely thanks to great points scored by Ronan Fitzgerald and John Francis Connolly. However points by Sean O’Callaghan, Lorcan McCaughey and a goal by Donal Rooney for the visitors concluded a long-drawn game that proved that Carryduff’s efforts would secure a victory over the Shamrocks.
