Sarsfield had a welcome win in Division 2 of the Antrim Football League on Wednesday evening when they beat St Patrick’s Lisburn at the Bear Pit, a victory that takes them within a point of their rivals. Five points ahead at half time the Lisburn men closed the gap in the second half but the Paddies held on and had four to spare at the end.

The teams exchanged points in the early stages with Micael Ferris opening the scoring for the home side and Adam Patterson bringing St Patrick’s level soon afterwards. Three in a row from Conor Glenholmes, Brian Healy and Philip McPeake gave Sarsfields a bit of breathing space but it was short lived as St Patrick hit back with a goal to level matters.

Sarsfields reacted well however and two minutes later came back with a goal of their own and pushed on to lead by by 1-8 to 1-3 at half time.

Micael Ferris pushed the advantage out to six early in the second half, though St Patricks came back with two in a row from Anton Beattie and Oisin Gorman. A point from a Gary Lennon free put five between the teams and though Rory Kennedy closed the gap to three, a Brian Healy point in the final minutes gave the Paddies a four point cushion at the end.
