Shane O’Neill’s right up there in the mix

ACHL Div 2

Shanè Uì Nèill  2-22 Carryduff    3-09

A sizeable crowd were gathered at Pairc Ui fhearsithe for the second consecutive evening where Glenarm were hosting Carryduff.

Both sides were slow to get out of the blocks which ensured a low scoring first half, the significant difference being a goal for the visitors on twenty minutes, H/T 0-7, 1-6.

The home team, buoyed by a strong cold breeze in their backs pushed ahead to turn a two point h/t deficit into a three point lead before, on nine minutes the city men bagged their second goal to bring the teams level, again Glenarm pulled away, Niall McGarel being sublime from the dead ball.

On nineteen minutes the visitors converted a penalty to bring them within six points, but straight from the puck out Conal Ward was first to a loose ball and fired low to the net. Again Carryduff came back and nabbed another major, again McGarel was on hand putting the hosts seven ahead, before, late on Ciaran Magill got his side’s second goal giving them a ten point victory.

This win moves Shane O’Neill’s up to 7th in the table but they are only two points adrift of leaders Clooney Gaels and have a game in hand.

The closets league campaign for quite a number of years looks like going right down to the wire and on present form the Feystown side should be right up there in the mix
