Antrim LGFA Under 14B Football final
Tir na nÓg 3-06 Sarsfields 2-06
Tir na nNóg won the Antrim LGFA B championship title when they beat a very good Sarsfields team by a goal in Thursday’s evening’s final at Glenavy.
A goal by midfielders Ciara McCann in the fourth minute gave Tir na nÓg a good start, but Sarsfields came back strongly and with Ciara McGurk controlling the play they were level after ten minutes as Ciara slotted over three points in a row. Caoimhe Herrfron came back with a point for the Randalstown girls but the Sarsfields responded well and the brilliant goal by McGurk to take a two point lead. However the Belfast girls were held scoreless for the remainer of the first half and Tir na nÓg finished the half strongly with points by Heffron, Ciara McCann and Grainne Kerr to lead by a point at the break.

A goal by Anna Robb in the first minute of the second half stretched the Tir na nÓg lead to four, and though Lisa McCavanagh closed the gap with a Sarsfields point Emma McIvor got a third goal to put six between the sides. Orla Scullion kept Sarsfields in touch with a point further points from Robb and McIvor stretched the gap to seven with time almost up.
To their credit Sarsfields never gave up the fight and a point from McCavanagh and goal from top scorer McGurk left just three between the team. There were a few anxious moments for the Randalstown fans as Sarsfields put on the pressure in extra time, but the final whistle sounded the celebrations started for the girls in blue.
