St Patrick’s Lisburn win the Mulholland Cup

Danske Bank Mulholland Cup final

St Patrick’s Lisburn 2-10 Lismore College 1-6

St Patrick’s Lisburn won their first Danske Bank Mulholland Cup title when they overcome a slow start to beat Lismore College in Wednesday’s final Colaiste Feirste.

Lismore College had the better of things in the opening quarter of the game, but good defence work by the Lisburn side restricted their Craigavon opponents to single point. Now in their stride St Patrick’s began to add the scores and a Conor Dowds goal really got them going. Three points followed from the pace laden Eoin Morris and a second goal from Dowds had them in a very strong position, though Lismore got themselves back into the game when Liam Stevenson pulled a goal back

However, although OdhránMcCann hit the target for three points, the Craigavon school were always chasing the game. Morris and Dara Campbell kept chipping away at their confidence with points while Christopher McGarry was always prodding and prompting.

It’s a huge achievement for the Lisburn boys to lift a title last year, move up a grade and complete that competition without losing a game. However Lismore will feel that they didn’t really get going and were caught too often on the break.
