Antrim Football League Division 1
Con Magees Glenravel 0-13 St John’s 0-13
Two late points by full forward Sean McKay and corner forward Eamon Fyfe earned Con Magees a share of the spoils in Wednesday evening’s Division 1 league game against St John’s at Fr Maginn Park. When substitute Odhran Quinn put the Johnnies two clear in the 56th minute it looked like league points were on their way back to Corrigan Park, but the home side kept plugging away and McKay and Fyfes late points gained the Glenravel men a draw. It has to be said however they had a lucky escape when Conal McGlade missed the chance to seal the win for the Johnnies when he was off target with what appeared to be a simple free in between those two Glenravel scores.

St John’s started the game well and points from Ryan McNulty and McGlade had them two clear after five minutes, and they seemed set to add a goal when Conchur Adams was through on goal, only to be denied by the boot of Glenravel ‘keeper Johnn Fyfe. The home team came back with two from McKay and one from Fyfe to edge ahead by the 14th minutes, but the pendulum swung back in the visitors’ favour and a McGlade point in the 15th minutes was followed by two in a row from Adams in the 23rd and 24th minutes. It looked like the Belfast men would take that two point advantage into half time but a good move from inside their own half set Eamon Fyfe up for a point and just before the half time whistle substitute Conleth O’Loan scored with his first touch of the ball to tie things up at 0-05 apiece.

The see-saw nature of the game continued when Glenravel got the first three points of the second half, Rian Lennon, Fergus Donaghy and Sean Higgins all finding the target, but St John’s dominated the next ten minutes and in a great scoring run, which started with Conal McGlade hitting a 2-pointer, saw McGlade, Odhran McAuley, and Conchur Adams put the visitors’ two clear.
Fyfe and Lennon pointed for the home side to level matters once more, but when Ross Hannigan and Odhran Quinn hit late points the smart money would have been on the boys in blue taking the win, but McKay and Fyfe saved the day for the Con Magees to earn their team a share of the spoils.
