Moneyglass continue to impress as they keep pace with Sarsfields at the top

ACFL Division 2

Moneyglass 1-23 Davitt’s 2-7

Moneyglass recorded their 5th win in 6 starts as they keep pace with Sarsfields at the top of division 2 when they entertained Davitt’s on Wednesday night.

The Falls Road side have struggled for results this season and currently sit at the bottom of the table and they faced a stiff task here when they made the visit to the parish of Duneane and so it proved to be.

The home side opened brightly and led by 0-4 to 0-1 after 12 minutes in a low scoring opening period with Tyler Cassidy, Colum Duffin (2pts) and Fearghal Duffin on target and Davitt’s opening their account through James Lindsay.

St. Ergtnat’s continued to hold the upper hand with Cassidy striking his side’s second 2 pointer and Conor Boyd adding a point to move them 6 ahead by the 20th minute.

Davitt’s were battling hard but finding scores hard to come by but Niall McParland brought them to life when he found the net in the 21st minute and John Sullivan added a point to close the gap to two.

It was St. Ergnat’s who finished strongly however with Kevin McCann, Tyler Cassidy, Sean Boyd and Connor O’Kane firing over unanswered points to leave them 1-11 to 1-4 ahead at the break.

Colum Duffin extended the Moneyglass lead to eight with a point on the restart but Caoimhin Slane replied with two for the visitors as they fought to get back into contention.

It was end to end at this stage of the contest as Conleith McCann for the hosts and Caoimhin Slane exchanged further scores but once again the scores dried up for the West Belfast side as St. Ergnat’s found another gear.

Conor Boyd, Colum Duffin, Tyler Cassidy, Connor O’Kane and Seanchan Duffin all raised white flags before Anthony Rowntree fired past James McLaughlin to momentarily raise his side’s expectation.

It was too little, too late however and the joint league leaders finished strongly with Connor O’Kane, Tyler Cassidy and substitute Ronan Campbell all raising white flags to leave them comfortable winners.

This win leaves St. Ergnat’s level on points but trailing Sarsfield’s on score difference after the Stewartstown Road side recorded a good victory over Naomh Comhghall at Dunsilly.
