Ardoyne 4-18 Wolfe Tones 1-10
A very pacy and free flowing Ardoyne team took the points over Wolfe Tones at Fennell Park to give them a welcome boost in Div 3 of the ACFL. This was a very much improved Ardoyne team who raced into a seven point lead before Wolfe Tones got their score on the board after 15 minutes of play.
An in-form Kealan McCallan got the Ardoyne men off to a flying start, followed by a beautiful point from James McAuley as he swung a ball over the ball with some style.
Cahal Keown had one of his best games at senior level for Ardoyne as he put them 3 points into the lead. A two pointer from McAuley and it looked as though this was going to be a very one-sided game. Wolfe Tones hit back with 3 consecutive points to give Ardoyne something to think about, but Ardoyne soon got back into control with a further 7 points and a goal before the short whistle. Wolfe Tones managed to break through for a goal but a strong defence from Ardoyne and a brilliant save from Hughes in the Ardoyne goals proved too much for them to make any significant impact.

Wolfe Tones were first out of the blocks as the second half opened. Martin Connor went close in a valiant attempt at goal, but Wolfe Tones had to be content with a follow up point from a free by Aaron McAllister.
The impressive McAuley for Ardoyne sent in a high ball from range that looked to be heading for a two pointer, only to drop on to the crossbar. A quick thinking Barnes collected the dropping ball and despatched it to the back of the net.
Scores were coming now with some regularity. McCallan picked up a goal for Ardoyne, followed by a two pointer from Burrows for Wolfe Tones. The game was quickly slipping away from Wolfe Tones, emphasised by Ardoyne’s fourth goal coming from McAuley. Wolfe Tones fired over 2 more points, but the difference in form was reinforced with Ardoyne slotting over the final 3 scores of the game.
