Breslin Cup Final
St. Jasmes Aldergrove 2-13 St. Enda’s 1-5
St James, Aldergrove won the Breslin Cup for the first time in their history on Sunday whent beating St Enda’s in difficult conditions at Aghagallon.
In what was a very cagey first half dictated by a really strong wind. Aldergrove got the better of the first half exchanges with some excellent point taking. The highlights were two, 2 pointers from the excellent Eoin Morris who also added another point, with Conor McArt popping up, out wide, to add another. This left Aldergrove in front by 4, before St Enda’s came back into the game with a brace of points from Colm Kane and Nathan Burns
With Dara Campbell controlling the midfield and their defensive formation looking strong, Aldergrove headed in at HT leading by 0-6 to 0-4, with question marks over whether St Enda’s could take advantage of the wind in the 2nd half.
The 2nd half commenced and Aldergrove quickly took control of the game with an excellent worked goal, moving the ball at pace through the lines before Ryan Donnelly popped up at the back post to tap the ball into the net. Aldergrove added another point to edge themselves further in front from Jack Kelly, before Charlie O’Kane from St Enda’s pegged back a goal against the run of play. That was as good as it got for St Enda’s with Aldergrove taking a really tight grip on the game and tipping the scoreboard over with a series of points from Rhys Condie, Shea McGrath, Eoin Morris and Dara Campbell. One of the highlights of the 2nd half was a magnificent two pointer from Eoin McGrady who burst through the middle before launching a fine shot whilst on the move. St Enda’s tried in vain to pull it back but Aldergrove’s back line held strong under serious pressure only allowing St Enda’s 1 point in the second half. In the last 5 minutes, Eoin Morris’ vision saw Cole Jones free inside, who confidently dispatched into the goal from 10 yards out to finish the game off on a high for Aldergrove. A fantastic team effort left the final score at 2-13 to 1-5 to the Grove lads.
