Intermediate Hurling Championship – Round 5
Tir na Óg 4-22 Glenarm 6-20
Tir na nÓg secured the second semi-final spot in Group 1 of the Intermediate Hurling Championship when they held off a mighty challenge from Glenarm in their final game at Whitehill on Saturday. There were three permutations going into this game! A win for the home side put them into the semi-final, which in the end was what happened, A win for Glenarm by less than eight points, which would put Cushendun through and a win by more than ten points for Glenarm, which would have put them through.

Glenarm actually led at half time by a point, to the delight of all the Cushendun fans, but they were going to need to stretch that advantage to get themselves in contention, but Tir na nOg’s destiny was in their own hands and in the end they pulled away to secure that semi-final spot against neighbours Creggan in two weeks’ time.
Tir na nÓg started strongly and were 1-04 to 0-00 clear in seven minutes, the goal coming from Josh Higgins in the third minute. Glenarm were really up against it now but they decided goals were the only thing that could save them and they ended up getting four of them before half time through O’Boyle, McDermot, Black and Magill to go in at half time with a a one point lead (4-05 to 1-13), the home side content to pick off the points and with Sean Duffin leading the line, and Darragh Fagan chipping in they knew they were in a strong position, despite their one point deficit.
That deficit was wiped out in the first minute of the second half when Eamon Og McAllister found the Glenarm net, but the men from Feystown hit back with two more goals of their own, the first from Sean O’Boyle on 36 minutes and the second four minutes later from Ciaran Magill on 45.

Magill’s second goal, his team’s sixth overall, gave them hope once again, but those hopes were dashed a minute later when Eamon Og McAllister found the net for the home team at the other end. From then on the scores began to dry up for the Feystown men, with only two more points coming in the last quarter, while Tir na nÓg kept the scoreboard ticking over wit points from Eamon Og McAllister, Sean Duffin, Josh Higgins, Daniel Martin and Ciaran Logan to win in the end by 4-22 to 6-10. A great display by the Whiehill side who will go into the semi-finals in confident mood.
