St Louis come up short in Dalton Cup opener

St Louis Ballymena opened their Dalton Cup campaign on their travels to Mid Ulster Sports Arena, coming up short against an experienced Omagh CBS on Friday afternoon.

Entering the Ulster Schools Grade 1 competition for the first time in over ten years the Ballymena side had fell behind 1-1 to 0-0 after 5 minutes but they slowly began to grow into the game registering 2-4 without reply.

Goals from Ronan Laverty and Alfie Gordon in between points from Conan McKeever, Kieran Jayaprakash and Nicholas McCrory helped the lads to a two point lead at half time, as CBS had tagged on the last few points of the half.

The Tyrone School fired three goals in quick succession on the restart to regain control of the contest but to their credit SLG responded with another fine goal through Oisin Anyalechi to keep in the contest but it was the Tyrone boys who finished the game stronger, running out deserving winners in the end despite a gallant effort from St Louis on their return to the top tier competition.

They now face St Michael’s Enniskillen, St Patrick’s Cavan and St Malachys Castlewellan in their remaining group A games.
