Cumann na mbunscol – January round-up

January’s poor weather conditions have not deterred the children in our local schools from competing in various forms of Cumann na mbunscol activity!!

• The South West quiz was hosted by St Brigid’s Ballymena. An excellent afternoon of competition was enjoyed by almost 80 children. Congratulations to our winners Mary Queen of Peace Glenravel and our runners up Moneynick.

• The following day saw one of the highlights of the football calendar, The boys indoor 5 a side competition. This was a keenly contested, competitive and extremely enjoyable event for all concerned. Cup winners on the day were Moneynick Primary school who defeated St Patrick’s Rasharkin in the final, the shield made its way to Mary Queen of Peace, defeating St Comgall’s Antrim in the final.

•The indoor camogs were next up at the Antrim Forum, a fantastic day of camogie resulted in the cup heading to Millquarter Primary School who overcame Creggan in the final, the shield victors were Moneynick edging past St Joseph’s Crumlin in the final.

• Other events in January, included a P4 Gaelfast football coaching day in the Dunloy and the Football for all weekly competition, held in Allen Park.

• In North Antrim the annual quiz was hosted by Glenann PS, the home school were the winners with runners up St Ciaran’s Cushendun.

•January saw the annual CnmB Béal Feirste Indoor Boys and Girls Football championships run again at the Colin Park Dome. 

32 schools competed in both codes, 64 teams in total. 

Each competition runs throughout the entire week with the 8 group winners progressing to the Friday Finals day.

A huge thank you and well done to all the boys and girls who took part and the staff and volunteers who made these events possible.
