Antrim Football League -Division 1
Carggin 5-13 Glenravel 1-08
Erin’s Own Cargin showcased their power and class with a dominant victory over visitors Con Magees Glenravel in the Antrim Football League Division 1 on Wednesday night in Toome. Bolstered by the return of several key players from injury, the home side proved they are a force to be reckoned with, turning a competitive first half into a second-half masterclass to win convincingly.

The visitors actually started the brighter of the two sides, taking an early lead within the opening five minutes thanks to scores from Aidan O’Donnell and Shea O’Brien. Tomas McCann quickly responded with a point for Cargin to settle the home side, though Glenravel kept the pressure on with two additional early points. The momentum shifted dramatically when Sean O’Neill embarked on a superb solo run, cutting through the Glenravel defence to finish brilliantly into the bottom left corner for Cargin’s first goal.
This opened the floodgates for a frantic sequence of first-half action. While Eamon Fyfe and Calum Higgins kept the scoreboard ticking over for the visitors, Cargin’s attack, driven by the constant overlapping threat of O’Neill, began to cause major problems. Michael McCann found the back of the net for Cargin’s second goal, and their third arrived in unusual fashion on 25 minutes when Glenravel’s Eoin McCusker saw a ball slide unfortunately off his fist into his own net. Glenravel refused to fold entirely before the break, with Shea O’Brien grabbing a crucial goal to keep them in touch, leaving the halftime score at 3-04 to 1-05 in favour of the home side.
Trailing by five points, Glenravel needed a strong start to the second period, but it was Cargin who hit their stride and emerged firing. Mick McCann set the tone immediately with a pointed free, followed shortly by a beautiful dummy move that created the space for his second score of the half. He quickly added a third to stretch the lead. Shea O’Brien fought hard for the visitors, scoring from open play and later converting a free, but Cargin’s depth and fitness soon began to tell.

The introduction of substitute Patrick O’Neill proved devastating for the visitors. O’Neill grabbed his first goal of the night after collecting a far-side pass and beating the Glenravel defenders with ease. Entering the final ten minutes, Cargin completely overwhelmed their rivals. Sean O’Neill capped off a tireless performance with a well-deserved point on 23 minutes, followed rapidly by a score from Eunan Quinn. Jamie Gribbin was then sharp to react to a goalbound shot rebounding off the crossbar, smartly fisting the ball over for a point.
Moments later, Patrick O’Neill struck again, netting his second goal to kill off any lingering Glenravel hopes. Cargin’s relentless scoring continued in the closing moments with points from John Carron and Martin Kane. Though Shea O’Brien managed a late consolation point for Con Magees, Cargin had the final say when Jamie Gribbin raised another green flag, burying a late goal to cap off an emphatic home win.
