Lámh Dhearg involved in fundraising events in support of Ciarla

Lámh Dhearg will host an important fundraising event on Saturday morning in the bid to raise funds to support Ciarla Herron.

Daughter of Senior Hurler Conor and granddaughter of former club Chairman Barney, Ciarla is undergoing specialist physiotherapy in order to assist in an ambition of walking independently.

Conor explained that his father Barney was determined to raise funds and sought the help of others within Lámh Dhearg to help with events in the coming months.

“After seeing the fantastic progress Ciarla made during a block of specialist physiotherapy in London, Ciarla’s granda (my father) Barney Herron, became determined to raise funds to ensure she could continue accessing the treatment she needs.

Barney reached out to Ciara Doc, a member of both Lámh Dhearg LGFA and VC Glendale. Ciara immediately offered her support, began putting together a fundraising plan, and suggested bringing the two clubs together in a joint fundraising effort. Paul Buchanan from our club was also quick to get involved and, alongside Ciara, Barney and many others, has played a vital role in organising the events”.

On Saturday morning there will be a series of Cycles around the Highway to Health at Lámh Dhearg with Fundamentals right through to U-12 taking part alongside VC Glendale Imps cycling club. Afterwards a Coffee morning will take place before Sunday sees a sponsored Spinathon in the Kennedy Centre between 1pm – 5.30pm.

“This weekend, Lámh Dhearg juveniles, including the teams of Ciarla’s siblings Cathán and Cuisle, will join forces with VC Glendale Imps for the Cycle for Ciarla event around the clubs’ Highway to Health route. The cycle will be followed by a coffee morning in the clubrooms, providing an opportunity for the wider community to come together and show their support.

We will also be taking part in a Spinathon at the Kennedy Centre this Sunday from 1.00pm to 5.30pm. The highlight of our fundraising campaign will take place on 1 August, when cyclists will take on either a 50km or 100km route in support of Ciarla.

All funds raised will go directly towards Ciarla’s ongoing therapy and the associated costs of accessing specialist treatment, helping her continue her journey towards achieving her dream of walking independentlyThe support received so far has been incredible, and our family cannot thank everyone enough for their generosity and encouragement”.
