Aghagallon 7-24 v Sarsfields 0-08
Report and photos from Brian Hamill
Aghagallon delivered a ruthless attacking performance to overwhelm Sarsfields and secure a comprehensive Senior Championship victory on home soil. The hosts finished with seven goals and a dominant spread of scorers as they pulled clear from an early stage and never looked back.
The foundations were laid by an impressive forward display. Aghagallon’s Adam Loughran was the standout contributor, finishing with 2-06, while Ruairi McCann added 2-01 and John Hannon contributed 1-03. Their inside line caused constant problems for the Sarsfields defence throughout the contest.

Aghagallon also received important attacking contributions from deeper positions. Eunan Walsh weighed in with 1-02, while substitute EJ Loughran made a notable impact from the bench with 1-01. Further scores from Enda McCartan (0-4), Jamie Lamont (0-1), Ciaran Maginnis (0-1), Jack Lenehan (0-1) and substitute Ben Dervan (0-1) underlined the home side’s complete control. Goalkeeper Luke Mulholland also converted a one point and a two-point free.
Sarsfields battled throughout and had scores from Jay Maguire, who struck a two-point effort and a point. Caolan McDonnell, Phillip McPeake, Garry Lennon, Daniel Smyth and Conor Mosley also got on the score-sheet. However, they found it difficult to contain Aghagallon’s pace and movement in attack.
With goals arriving at regular intervals and scores coming from all areas of the field, Aghagallon steadily increased their advantage as the game progressed, especially as Sarsfields went down to 14 men after Garry Lennon’s second yellow card. Their clinical finishing and depth in attack ultimately proved far too much for Sarsfields as they ran out emphatic winners.
This result will give Aghagallon confidence as they move forward through the competition, with sterner challenges ahead, while Sarsfields will hope to make big improvements in the upcoming matches.
