South West U14 Plate Final
St. Joseph’s Glenavy 6-15 Con Magee’s Glenravel 1-8
Glenavy proved too good on the day for a hard-working, Con Magee’s Glenravel in this U14 Football plate final, played in excellent conditions at Dunsilly on Sunday.
Powered by the towering James Cowey at mid-field, St. Joseph’s took the game to their opponents from the start with Daniel Arthurs pointed them ahead before Daire Kearney levelled matters with 5 minutes gone.
Kearney would provide Con Magee’s greatest scoring threat over the 50 plus minutes but luck deserted him on several occasions but he did briefly give the Glen’s men the lead with a point in the 9th minute which was pushed over by Jacob McKernan in the Glenavy goals.
Slowly though Glenavy began to take control and Cillian McCabe fired over the equaliser before finishing to the net for the game’s opening goal.

Aidan Regan added a point before Daire Kearney replied with his third point of the game to leave just a goal between the sides after 16 minutes.
It was the Chapel Hill side who found another gear in the period leading up to half time with Aiden Regan (2-0), Daniel Arthurs and Michael Duffy all adding goals and Kearney and Matthew McQuillan tagging on points for Glenravel to leave it 5-8 to 0-5 at the half way point.
The Glenravel defence tightened up after the break but their opponents continued to add points with James Cowey and Michael Duffy dictating matters from mid-field.
Cowey, Daniel Arthurs and Odhran Arthurs added points before Daire Kearney finally found the net from the penalty spot to open the Con Magee’s second half scoring in the 10th minute.

Substitute Oscar McGlone added a point but again Glenavy responded with Dara Nelson and James Cowey pointing before Cowey added a 2 point free to put the Chapel Hill side out of sight.
To their credit Con Magee’s never gave up and their best player, Daire Kearney replied with a point and Oscar Davidson pulled of a fine save but was helpless to deny Michael Duffy from the penalty spot to conclude the scoring.
