Sarsfields 3-27-1-17 Davitts

SARSFIELDS picked off Davitts with relative ease after the break as they advanced to the semi final of the Casement Social Casement Antrim JHC with a comfortable 3-27-1-17 win at the BearPit on Sunday evening.
It was one-way traffic for much of the opening period but Davitts finished the second quarter of the half better and with the score 1-13-0-10, they were well in contention,
1-9 without reply killed off the contest with Daniel Smyth adding his second goal of the game and late on Enda McCartan completed his sides goal scoring exploits.
Sarsfields were first off the mark through a Caolan McKernan free and then hit the games opening goal in the third minute courtesy of Daniel Smyth.
Smyth added a free 60-seconds later ahead of Deaglan Mooney getting Davitt’s opening score of the evening.
Points followed through Kevin-Barry McArdle, Daniel McKernan, Fionn Jemfrey and Nicholas O’Mullane, with Cormac Maguire responding for the Beechmount outfit.
Former Davitt’s underage player Cormac Mulligan dropped over his first, Daniel McKernan added successive points and Nicholas O’Mullane chalked up his second as the Paddies were coasting, 1-10-0-2 ahead with 17-minutes gone.
A second Deaglan Mooney point was followed by a fine Marcus Toner score as Davitt’s briefly halted the hosts growing momentum.
Points were traded between Oisin Coleman and Christopher Gallagher free, before the visitors had their best spell and hit four points without reply.
The first two scores came from converted Gallagher frees, Marcus Toner doubled his personal tally from range after combining with Deaglan Mooney and Toner then added a further point from the placed ball to move his side within five points (1-11-0-9).
Sarsfields ended their scoreless period through a magnificent Caolan McKernan point from range, the sides exchanged points before the break through Daniel McKernan and Christopher Gallagher (free) as six-points was the difference at the midway point (1-13-0-10).
The first half of the second period was one traffic from the outset as the hosts hit 1-9 unanswered to kill the game off as a contest.
Kevin-Barry McArdle and Fionn Jemfrey pointed immediately after the restart, substitute Garry Lennon knocked over his first since being introduced at the break and that started another glut of scores.
The personal tallys of Daniel Smyth and Caolan McKernan were increased with points before Smyth found his second goal of the night in the 38th minute.
Smyth dropped in a shot that Davitt’s keeper Antoin McLaughlin spilled as the hosts were 2-18-0-10 ahead.
The procession continued with Kevin-Barry McArdle popping over his third, Fionn Jemfrey joined his colleague in the full forward line on 0-3 and then stroked over another two scores in succession to further extend the lead with a quarter of an hour remaining (2-22-0-10).
It took 17-minutes for Davitts to reply courtesy of talisman Christopher Gallagher from his fifth placed ball of the contest.
Daniel Smyth converted his second free of the night but Davitt’s struck back with their first goal.
Peter Carleton did well to pass the ball off to Caoimhin Rainey in space and the full forward headed towards the target and his low fizzed effort was too hot for David Ward to handle as it found the back of the net to make it 2-23-1-11.
That lifted the visitors for a brief period and they reeled off three further points without reply, Gallagher adding two further frees and substitute Leigh O’Grady making an impact from the bench.
The Paddies responded with four unanswered scores, Fionn Jemfrey added another two points to his tally, substitute Garry Lennon doubled his account and fellow substitute Enda McCartan played a one-two with Eoin McBriarity and fired low to the net to make it 3-26-1-14.
Points were traded between Deaglan Mooney and Fionn Jemfrey ahead of Davitts concluding the evenings scoring through Mooney and Rainey as Sarsfields ran out comfortable winners at the conclusion to advance to the semi-final of the Junior Championship and keep their domestic double hopes on course.
