St Louis off to a flyer

Corn Na Nog

St Louis Ballymena 3-9
St Patrick’s Maghera 0-11

St Louis Ballymena opened their Corn na nÓg campaign with a convincing 3-9 to 0-11 victory over St Patrick’s Maghera on a wet and windy Friday morning.

Played on Maghera’s newly renovated back pitches, St Louis led 2-2 to 0-5 at half-time, having played against the elements in the opening half. Goals from Conan McKeever and Oisín Martin proved decisive as the Ballymena side established a strong platform.

Play was held up for around ten minutes during the first period following a knee injury to Maghera’s Thomas McCullough. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the pitch soon.

As the rain continued to pour in the third quarter, both schools continued to battle impressively and sportingly, with St Louis proving the more clinical side and opening up a six-point lead.

The Derry side responded strongly, reducing the deficit to just two points, but St Louis held their composure. A two-pointer from McKeever and a well-worked goal from Oisín Analychi helped secure a 3-9 to 0-11 victory for last year’s beaten finalists.

A strong opening to the campaign for St Louis, who now turn their attention to St Pats Cavan whilst Maghera will play Tyrone side Holy Trinity College.
