St Louis Grammar School hosted a truly memorable evening on Thursday night in the Tullyglass Hotel as parents, staff, sporting enthusiasts and members of the wider community gathered for A Night with St Louis: Overcoming Adversity.

The event, which was expertly compered by Shane Elliott, provided a powerful insight into the resilience, determination and mental strength required to overcome life’s challenges both on and off the sporting field.

The first half of the evening featured an engaging panel discussion with Armagh All Ireland winner Niall Grimley, Antrim footballer Paddy McBride and Antrim Camog Caoimhe Conlan. Each shared their personal experiences of adversity, speaking openly and honestly about serious injuries, setbacks and the grief they have encountered throughout their lives. Their stories highlighted not only the challenges they faced but also the crucial role that sport has played in helping them navigate difficult times and emerge stronger individuals.

Following the opening discussion, guests enjoyed an excellent Buffet provided by the team at Tullyglass, allowing attendees the opportunity to reflect on the powerful messages already shared and to engage with fellow supporters of the event.

The second half of the evening continued in equally inspiring fashion as Armagh LGFA star Aimee Mackin, Kilkenny hurling legend Richie Power and sports psychologist Dr Noel Brick took to the stage. Aimee and Richie spoke candidly about their own journeys through adversity, detailing the sacrifices, setbacks and challenges that have shaped their careers. Meanwhile, Noel Brick provided fascinating insights into the world of performance psychology, offering practical advice and thought-provoking perspectives on resilience, mindset and coping with pressure. His contributions left a lasting impression on all those in attendance.

The honesty, humility and positivity shown by all six guests resonated deeply with the audience and reinforced the value of sport as a vehicle for personal growth, connection and wellbeing.
