Cross & Passion Ballycastle won the Friday’s Shane Mulholland Hurling tournament at St Louis Ballymena, beating St Killian’s Garron Tower in the final. The Ballycastle school, who have an exceptional pool of talent, beat the hosts St Louis, St Mary’s and St Killian’s in the round robin section, which did not have St Pat’s Maghera this year because of a clash with their school sports.
Maria Mulholland, mother of of late Shane, presents the Player of the Tournament award to Tom Richmond of CPC, while Dylan Hand – McCallin of St Mary’s and Cillian Gillespie of St Louis Grammar School received the Shield Players of the Tournament award. Maria also presented the Shane Mulholland Memorial Cup to John Og Darragh captain of CPC while joint St Mary’s captains, Dylan Hand McCallin and Eoghan Herron, receied the Shield.
The win completes a fantastic year for the Ballycastle school at this age group, as they completed the Thomson Cup, Gaelfast Year 9 and Luke Mulholland Cup treble.

A sizeable crowd were gathered at Pairc Ui fhearsithe for the second consecutive evening where Glenarm were hosting Carryduff.
Both sides were slow to get out of the blocks which ensured a low scoring first half, the significant difference being a goal for the visitors on twenty minutes, H/T 0-7, 1-6.
The home team, buoyed by a strong cold breeze in their backs pushed ahead to turn a two point h/t deficit into a three point lead before, on nine minutes the city men bagged their second goal to bring the teams level, again Glenarm pulled away, Niall McGarel being sublime from the dead ball.
On nineteen minutes the visitors converted a penalty to bring them within six points, but straight from the puck out Conal Ward was first to a loose ball and fired low to the net. Again Carryduff came back and nabbed another major, again McGarel was on hand putting the hosts seven ahead, before, late on Ciaran Magill got his side’s second goal giving them a ten point victory.
This win moves Shane O’Neill’s up to 7th in the table but they are only two points adrift of leaders Clooney Gaels and have a game in hand.
The closets league campaign for quite a number of years looks like going right down to the wire and on present form the Feystown side should be right up there in the mix
Shan McGrath who has recently returned to the Loughgiel colours, following a spell ‘down under’ gave a man of the match performance in the Shamrocks win over Cushendall in the Countess of Antrim Cup at Fr Healy Park on Wednesday evening. Starting at full forward McGrath was top scorer in the game as Loughgiel held the upper hand for most of the game.
The home team hit the first six scores without reply, McGrath getting two of the points with Darragh Patterson, Conal McCloksey, Ronan McCollum and Donal McKinley also contributing, in a dominant start. Joseph McNaughton got Cushendall’s first score on eleven minutes but the Shamrocks were in control and they pushed on to lead by double scores at half time – 1-13 to 0-08
Although Cushendall started the second half with a point from Christy McNaughton their hopes of a comeback were soon dashed when Tiago McGarry came back with the goal direct from a free and when McGrath added two more points the comeback hopes were all but over. Each time the Ruairis pulled a point back, Loughgiel replied with two at the other end and they added their third goal through McGrath just two minutes from times to book a place in the final.
Cushendall scored a big win over Glenariffe-Glenravel on Wednesday evening at Pairc Mhuire to maintain their 100% record in the Under 16 Hurling League. The win brings them up to third place in the league table, just two points behind joint leaders Loughgiel and Glenariffe-Glenravel, but they have three games in hand over Wednesday’s opponents and two in hand on the Shamrocks.
Glenariffe-Glenravel started the game well enough and were a point up in the opening minute with a free from Canice McIntosh. A great move a minute later set up a great goal chance but the Cushendall goalkeeper Shane Coulter made a brilliant save to deny them and when man of the match Connlaodh McNaughton got the first of his three goals the Ruairis were on top.
The visitors were still level at the end of the first quarter but Cushendall were starting to boss things in most areas of the field and further goals from McNaughton and Nicholas McLaughlin pushed their lead out to 3-4 to 0-5 by half time.
After the change of ends the young Ruairis tightened the screw after Dylan McNaughton and Nicholas McLaughlin added points Connlaodh McNaughton completed his hat-trick. Two more goals followed from Dylan McNaughton and Nicholas McLaughlin as they pushed on to an emphatic win.
St. Louis GS Ballymena was the venue again for this year’s Cumann na mBunscol Aontroma All-County Outdoor Finals.
The games were played in a mix of sunshine, rain and wind throughout the day but this did not deter the players on show from producing some high quality football, hurling and camogie.
Moneynick PS celebrate after winning the LFGA section at the Cumann na mBunscol finals at St Louis, Ballymena.
The event was again superbly organised by Mr Gillan and the PE staff of St. Louis GS Ballymena and special thanks goes to the Young Whistlers (Lower 6th students) Sean and Thomas who refereed the games impeccably with the help of the umpires (Year 10 students) Ollie, Éanna, PJ and Noah.
Despite the inclement weather, a fantastic day was had by children, teachers and parents at this wonderful facility and congratulations to all the winners on the day.
The day started with Moneynick, who have players from Cargin, Creggan and Moneyglass in their ranks, winning the LGFA section, beating St John the Baptist PS in the decider. Iona Maguire of Moneynick won the Bourke Sports jersey for Player of the Tournament.
The St Mary’s Portglenone Football and Camogie teams have their photo taken together. The boys won the football title while the girls were joint runners up in the Camogie
In the Boys football St Mary’s Portglenone were very impressive as they saw off both St Bride’s Belfast and St Joseph’s Dunloy in the round robin games, with Conan McKeever picking up the Bourke Sports Player of the Tournament award.
South Antrim champions St John the Baptist caused a bit of an upset when they won the Camogie title, beating last year’s winners Glenann in their opening game, coming from four down to hit five points in a row in the second half, all of them from Ellie McKavanagh. They then went on to beat St Mary’s Portglenone in their second game to seal the title.

There was another shock in the hurling section when Mary Queen of Peace, Belfast came out on top. St Anne’s from Corkey, Loughgiel looked very strong when beating Mount St Michael’s Randalstown in the first game, but they found the going a lot tougher when they came up against Mary Queen of Peace. Defences were on top in the opening half and it was still scoreless when they changed ends at half time.
St Anne’s looked favourites when they got a goal in the second half but a late point from Killyleagh got MQP on the scoreboard and the St Paul’s youngster sealed the win for his school when he flicked the ball over the advancing goalkeeper with seconds remaining. Tom Quinn of St Mary Queen of Peace won the Player of the Tournament awards.
