Great night for Antrim at Ulster Poc Fada

What a night it turned out to be for the Antrim competitors at the Ulster Poc Fada in the Cuilcagh Mountian, just outside Blacklion on the Fermanagh/Cavan border. Donal McKernan of Sarsfields became what must be one of the youngest winners of the event when he completed the course in 36 shots, two ahead of his nearest rival Ruairi Convery of Derry. The nineteen year old who won the All Ireland Under 16 title in 2015 was once again striking the sliotar right out of the sweet spot.

Orla O’Hara of Ruairi Og Cushendall won the ladies event while Roisin McCormick of Loughgiel Shamrocks came out on top in the Under 16 Girls section. Antrim’s other representative Ruairi Stevenson of St Paul’s, Belfast came close to making it a clean sweep for the Saffron County but he was pipped at the post by Ciaran Watson of Down. All four now go forward to the All Ireland Poc Fada in the Cooley mountains in August.
