All County Hurling League Division 3&4
Con Magees 1-10 Rasharkin 1-14
Rasharkin’s good form in Division 3&4 of the All County Hurling League continued when they travelled to Glenravel on Wednesday night and beat their old rivals by 1-14 to 1-10 at Fr Maginn Park. Ahead from the opening minute they went two clear a minute later when corner forward Eamon McNeill pointed a free from 45 metres out on the right wing. Glenravel got off the mark when Conor McNeill sent over a free in the fifth minute but Rasharkin took a grip on the game a minute later when Enda McFerran took advantage of slackness in the home defence to drill the ball low to the corner of the Glenravel net.
Conor McNeill pulled one back for the Con Magees but less than a minute later the McFerran was granted the freedom of the park and top scorer took advantage as he slotted the ball over from the edge of the ‘D’. Conor McNeill was proving Glenravel’s most effective player and when he sent a long ball into the Rasharkin square the St Mary’s netminder had his attempted clearance blocked down and Declan Traynor pounced only to see his shot deflected over the Rasharkin crossbar. McFerran hit back for Rasharkin to put three clear but two quick points from McNeill and a real beauty from distance by Padge O’Neill sent the teams to the changing room in level terms
Two minutes after the break Rasharkin’s Shane Hasson found himself in space thirty metres out and duly dispatched the ball over the bar and less than a minute later slick passing from the visitors put Donagh Quigg clear forty five metre out on the right and he made no mistake to stretch his team’s lead to two. It was soon out to three when centre forward Hasson sent over from forty metres and it was relief for the home fans when Conor McNeill hit back with two points inside three minutes to cut the gap to a single point. Points from St Mary’s corner forwards Enda McFerran and Eamon McNeill put the visitors three ahead again but Glenravel were back on terms in the fifty first minute when David Higgins pulled on a loose ball around the ‘square’ and drilled it into the bottom corner of the net. However Rasharkin were soon back in front when Declan McKay burst through from midfield to fire the ball over the bar and the lead was out to two less than a minute later when a cynical foul by a Glenravel defender was punished as the accurate McFerran sent over the resultant free. Declan Traynor pulled one back for the home side when he fired one over from 60 metres but a well taken point by midfielder Declan McMullan put his team three clear before Eamon McNeill sealed the points when he pounced on a short puck out to fire over from 30 metres.
