Loughgiel withstood a spirited comeback by Armoy to win the McCaughan Cup at Cloughmills on Saturday last to complete another successful season for the famous  ‘Z’ Squad who have won the North Antrim League and McCaughan Cup and finished runners-up in the Junior Feis final.

It all seemed plain sailing for the Shamrocks when goals from Aidan McFadden and Turlough McCarry  saw them build an eleven point lead, but Armoy finally got going and goals from Ryan Stewart and Seamus Alister brought them back into contention by half-time.

The second half was nip and tuck as it became a shoot-out between Loughgiel’s Cowboy McFadden and Armoy’s Lee Forsythe but though Armoy had a couple of great chances to force extra time in the final minutes Loughgiel held on to seal the win
