McCann Goal Seals Division 2 Title for Dunloy

All County Minor Football League Division 2

Moneyglass 2-11 Dunloy 4-10

Dunloy travelled to Moneyglass on Sunday knowing that a win for either side would give them the Division 2 title and as it transpired it was the Cucullian’s who came out tops in a great game, played in poor underfoot conditions.

Both sides went into this game unbeaten and sharing equal points though a Championship win for the young Cuchullain’s over St. Ergnat’s recently would have suggested that they would have the edge while Moneyglass were keen to overturn that result and take the league title.

The game itself turned out to be a real thriller, nip and tuck all the way with Dunloy holding a slender 2-5 to 1-6 lead at the short whistle and both sides producing some excellent football. Anton McGrath was the man who led the way with two goals with their points coming from Liam McCann 0-3, Sean O’Neill and Anthony Smith.

Dermot McErlain got the Moneyglass goal with Seanchan Duffin weighing in with three points and Eamon Kelly, Jack McCoy and Tyler Cassidy all on target for the Marrion Hill side and all still to play for in the second half.

Moneyglass battled hard to get back into contention in the second half but their cause wasn’t helped when Eamon Kelly had to retire injured mid-way through the half. There misfortune continued when a good save by their keeper deflected off defender Shea Madden into his own net.

It was still anybody’s game with Dunloy adding to their first half total with mid-fielder Deaglan Smith scoring two points and Sean O’Neill and Daire Crawley on target while Moneyglass responded through Seanchan Duffin 0-2, Eamon Kelly, Tyler Cassidy and a goal from Jack McCoy.

Leading by two as the game entered the closing stages, a goal for the home side would still have given them the contest and the title but it was the Cuchullain’s Liam McCann who sealed the victory with a late goal to leave his side Division 2 champions.
