U21 Football Championship Grading Round

St. Enda’s 4-10  Creggan 2-15

This opening round game of the U21 Football Championship was a great game of football played at breakneck pace throughout and it was a pity in the end that there had to be a loser. The Kickham’s looked to have achieved a remarkable comeback and a place in the A Championship when Liam McCann fisted to the net to give them the lead with time almost up but the Hightown side replied with a late goal of their own to take the contest.

St. Enda’s opened strongly as they rocked visitors Creggan taking a 1-03 to no score lead after 10minutes and they were playing into a strong wind. Kickham’s came back fighting with Mathew Rogers and Conor Small driving them on. Both sides were serving up some excellent football, exchanging scores and Conor Small converted a penalty to make the half time score 3.06 to 1.10 in favour of St Enda’s. The second half continued the in the same vein as the first with both teams going at it full pelt. With Tiernan McAteer starting to dictate the play up front and Mark Mulholland, Jamie McCann and Dermot Carey tightening up the defence Kickham’s thought they were home and dry when Liam McCann fisted to the net but St Enda’s came back with a goal of their own as points were exchanged and with three minutes of injury time played they held out for a one point win.
