Kelly’s Dunloy Mace Feile Cup (Qtr Final)
St Enda’s 5-03 Erin’s Own Cargin 6-11
Erin’s own Cargin made progress into the semi final stage of the Feile (cup) competition when they came late to gain the verdict over St Enda’s at their Glengormley abode on Sunday but the Toome lads were forced to dig deep to gain access.
The Erin’s Own lads having impressed in their opening round win gained over Rasharkin did look set on their way when they led 2-09 to 1-01 at the end of an opening period in which they had dominated.
Ryan O’ Neill and Daniel Mc Cann had found the net early in proceedings and aided the green and white clad visitors to that eleven point advantage and they looked on the way.
The home side were not about to bend the knee in early submission however and as the Cargin boys dallied on the advantage which had looked healthy at the half way juncture St Enda’s came roaring back into contention and a last minute goal saw them draw abreast at 2-09 to 4-03 just prior to the long blast to signal an extra period at conclusion.
Cargin did play what was to prove a trump card in the extra minutes allocated as Conhuir Johnston entered the fray and with dramatic consequences.
The ‘extra’ time addition was soon to stamp his authority on proceedings as he proceeded to find the net shortly into his introduction and although the Glengormley lads did help themselves to a major Conhuir Johnston was not finished as he proceeded to add a further couple of goal to ensure Cargin did cross the line with a 6-09 to 5-03 winning advantage.
