St. Ergnat’s Moneyglass who advanced to their second consecutive Feile final with a semi-final win over Gort Na Mona at Enright Park on Sunday.

Gort Na Mona 0-4  St Ergnat’s 1-3

Moneyglass staged a strong second half comeback to overcome the considerable challenge of Gort Na Mona in this excellent girls Feile semi-final in Belfast on Sunday. In a game that was contested fiercely from the first whistle the Enright park side put it up to last year’s champions and at half time looked to have taken control.

At this stage the ‘Gorts’ had moved into a 0-3 to 0-0 lead and were full value for that lead and it took a goal from Maria O’Neill to swing it in favour of the South West girls who went on to edge out their South Antrim rivals.

With home advantage Gort na Mona opened brightly, taking the game to the opposition and two well taken points from Blaithin Nic Cathail put them in the driving seat and another from Tierna Elley left them in what looked like a healthy 0-3 to 0-0 lead at the turn over.

Sensing the game slipping away from them the St. Ergnat’s girls stepped up their game during the second half and slowly they began to take  back a bit of control. Alica Boyd got them on their way with a good point and then Maria O’Neill fired the ball to the net to give them the lead for the first time.

The goal was produced through an excellent piece of team play, started deep in the Moneyglass half by an interception by full-back Molly McCoy. McCoy found Aoife Kelly who moved it to Sarah O’Neill whose astute pass placed her sibling and the older O’Neill made no mistake.

As the clock ticked down it was still nip and tuck with only a point separating the sides when Maria O’Neill produced another moment of genius. She picked up the ball around mid-field and burst forward before firing confidently over the bar to secure the win for Moneyglass and put them in their second Feile final in as many years.
