Dunloy and Loughgiel dominate Team of Week

team of the week - wk14Here we go with our second team of the week in hurling. The big game of the week which featured Loughgiel and Dunloy features a good few players, while Ballycran’s win over the hitherto unbeaten Rossa sees two of their players named. Jack McKay played a starring role in the Cushendun defence when they beat Eoghan Rua Dungannon in a low scoring game, while Joe Maskey who scored three points from half back for St Enda’s in their big win over Cloughmills earns him a place. John McGoldrick also starred in that game as he hit 1-8, while James Rocket Black was in fine scoring form for Carey, in their league game on Sunday and in the Countess of Antrim Cup against Ballycastle last night get the centre forward spot. Emmet Laverty was in great form for Cushendall in their win over Portaferry while Ciaran Clarke hit seventeen points in Ballycastle’s win over Sarsfields.

There were a few near misses again with Owen Kinney of Armoy hitting 2-2 from play from full-forward to bring his goals tally for the season to nine, while Oran McCann of Creggan, Paul Braniff of Portaferry and Daniel McKernan of Sarsfields were others who were unlucky not to make the list. There have been a few comments about no camogs being included and the displays of the likes of Portglenone’s Katie McAleese, Cushendall’s Orlagh O’Hara, Dunloy’s Jacinta Dixon, Bridini Oga’s Torie Edgar and Ballycastle’s Caoimhe Wright gave displays that are worthy of inclusion on any team. However it is had enough to narrow it down with hurlers only and I would like to have a camogie team of the week when the leagues get going properly.

Next week the football gets underway so we will have a new challenge selecting it.

Remember folks it’s just a bit of fun…….
