Na Magha were on their travels again on Sunday as hurlers from Derry city made the long journey to Belfast where they took on Davitt’s.

For the second Sunday in a row the journey proved fruitful for the Derry men, coming away with another brace of points, a result which leaves them in second place in league table, just two points behind leaders Bredagh, with a game in hand.

Owing to severe traffic jams Na Magha arrived late and had no chance of a warm up but it didn’t deter them as from throw in Diarmed Shields fired over the opening score.  Davitts came back strongly and took an early lead but this proved short lived as in Na Magha’s next attack Tim Rankin found the net. Although Davitts hit back the Alan Grant show took over and he scored eight of the Derry men’s next nine points, Ferghal McAnaney getting the other score.

Grant again scored on the restart and Davitts replied on 3 minutes, but this proved to be their last score of the day as Na Magha’s defence got to grips with their attack. Aodhan O Donnell then showed us his predatory skills as he hit two goals in a three minute spell. Both teams tired visibly in the last 10 minutes in the sweltering heat but Na Magha had done enough to earn two valuable points to keep their push for league honours very much on course.
